ELAFROS, Donna Lea, Aug 4, 1933 - Aug 3, 2012.
On the eve of her 79th birthday, God chose another angel in Donna Lea Elafros. Donna had an amazing spirit and was an inspiration to all. Diagnosed in 1990 with ovarian cancer, she beat the odds, surviving the cancer and inspiring thousands of cancer patients by responding to a letter in an Ann Landers column. She encouraged cancer patients to order a book, "Fighting Cancer" by Richard and Annette Bloch, to ensure they got the best cancer treatment available. Through her recommendation, over 876,000 people ordered it, causing their phone system to shut down. The book is still available online today. Donna was also involved with the Susan G. Komen Foundation after a diagnosis of breast cancer in 2006.

Donna was an extremely loving mother and grandmother and will be greatly missed by her children and their families: Debbie, Alexis and Cameron Elafros of Houston, TX, Tom, Karen, Sarah, Michael and Jessica Elafros of Overland Park, KS, Jim, Dennelle, Mackenzie and Matthew Elafros of Phoenix, AZ, and Bryan, David and Jeff Elafros of Omaha, NE. She will also be missed by AFS students Philip Birch of New Zealand and Brigitte Perlick of Germany who remain a part of her family to this day. Donna continued to be close to Rhonda Albrecht of Sturgis, SD and "Little Phillip" of Nebraska to whom she was a caring foster parent many years ago.

Donna was blessed with many caring and devoted friends. Her family would especially like to thank Angie Baker, Tammy Andersen, Merrilee Binkerd-Miller, Bertie Lange, and Gerry Marts for their devotion to her.

Donna's family would like to thank the nursing staff on 6th floor South at Methodist Hospital for the incredible care she received during her illness. We are especially thankful for the special, caring attention given by Sarah Bejarano and Aysha Abrahim. Donna was very fortunate to have wonderful caring doctors during her illnesses. She was especially fond of Dr. David Gershensen at The MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, TX and Dr. Elise Bomgaars at The Estabrook Cancer Center in Omaha, NE.

Rest in peace, Donna, our loving mother, grandmother and friend. Words cannot express how much you are loved and how much you will be missed.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, Sep 8, 2012 at 11am at Christ Community Church, 404 S. 108 Ave, Omaha, NE.
